A visit to another worldAlong the northern coast of British Columbia lies the Khutzeymateen Conservancy – the first area in Canada to be preserved specifically for the protection of grizzly bears and their habitat. Each year, a few lucky humans like me have the privilege of visiting this remote wilderness to explore by boat, but walking on the land is strictly prohibited. This place belongs to the bears, not to us. Visiting this place was like nothing I've experienced before. Over four days I saw nobody but my small group and one other boat. This is a true wilderness, perhaps the wildest I've ever visited. An experience that won't soon leave me.
