Skye at Night

Growing up on the Isle of Skye gave me a lot of freedom as a child. I have fond memories of staying out until past midnight, making up silly games with my friends on the dark and empty streets. Or camping overnight in a hay barn, kept company by a dozen other giggly girls and the hardy highland ponies outside.

The lack of city lights meant that there was always a blanket of stars overhead (at least, behind the clouds). That view instilled in me a love of the night sky which has driven me as far as becoming an astronaut candidate with the European Space Agency.

As a photographer, I have been fortunate to photograph the night sky all over the world – from Peruvian canyons to Canadian prairies and Southern African deserts. But there’s no place like home.

Skye at night has always been a special place, at a special time. With this fruition of a lifelong project in the making, I will share my insights into the landscape, the culture and – of course – the sky.
